Sarah Kim is a physician assistant with Keck Medicine of USC who specializes in treating thoracic surgery patients.

She treats patients at Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital and USC Arcadia Hospital. Here’s what you won’t find on her resume.

She wanted to become a vet…

“Growing up, I loved animals and dreamed of becoming a zoologist or veterinarian.”

…until a new calling found her.

“On an overseas medical trip, I witnessed the profound impact that limited health care access can have on a community. This experience became a driving force in my journey to become a physician assistant committed to providing accessible, high-quality care.”

She values the opportunity to help others.

“The most rewarding part of my job is providing patients with both emotional and physical support throughout their cancer journey. A cancer diagnosis is one of the most difficult and anxiety-provoking experiences a person can face, so being part of their care and helping guide them toward recovery brings me deep gratification.”

Keck Medicine gives her the chance to treat complex medical cases.

“Academic medical centers like Keck Medicine offer valuable opportunities for growth by taking on specialized and complex cases that are often not managed in other hospitals.

Our thoracic surgery team works within a multidisciplinary team to provide world-class care and the most up-to-date treatment for our patients. We strive to give our patients the care we would want for our own loved ones.”

Her favorite TV show reflects her values.

“My favorite TV show is ‘Ted Lasso’ because it highlights determination and resilience while remaining lighthearted and uplifting.”

In her free time, she might be on a coffee run.

“When I’m not working, I’m usually reading, running or searching for the best coffee shop.”

The best advice she’s received:

“Make sure to take care of yourself so you can better care for others.”
