Here’s what you won’t find on his resume.

Watching his father at work inspired his career choice.

“Believe it or not, I have wanted to be an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon for as long as I can remember. I played hockey growing up, and my dad was an orthopedic surgeon taking care of the Detroit Red Wings. For whatever reason, instead of wanting to become a pro hockey player like all the other kids, I just wanted to be the team doctor like my dad.”

He is a family man.

“When I am not working, I’m hanging out with my wife and two boys. My family life takes over when I get home, and I like to spend as much time with them as I possibly can. I also try to squeeze in a workout and time in the sun whenever I can.”

He enjoys playing golf.

“If I could trade careers with anyone in the world, my gut reaction is someone like pro golfer Scottie Scheffler. Getting to travel all year to nice climates and make a living playing golf sounds like a lot of fun.”

He strives every day to make his patients’ lives better.

“I think we are getting close to a breakthrough in the treatment of osteoarthritis and reversal or management of articular cartilage loss. The progress we have made in regenerative medicine over the last few years is very encouraging.”

The medical breakthrough he would like to see become a reality:

“I think we are getting close to a breakthrough in the treatment of osteoarthritis and reversal or management of articular cartilage loss. The progress we have made in regenerative medicine over the last few years is very encouraging.”

Educating future surgeons is a privilege.

“I chose to practice at an academic medical center because during my residency program, I came to truly appreciate the attendings for their dedication to training the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. It takes patience, but being a teacher and a mentor is critically important and deeply rewarding. It can be a lot of fun, too.”

He values the collaborative culture at Keck Medicine.

“What I like most about working at Keck Medicine is the people. I am surrounded by incredibly driven, intelligent and collaborative colleagues who genuinely want to provide the best care for patients and push the field forward.

There is also a strong academic and research environment. It is exciting to be part such an exceptional institution where clinical care, education and innovation are all happening together. That combination creates a culture where everyone is constantly trying to improve.”

What sets Keck Medicine apart:

“In orthopedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery, I think what sets Keck Medicine apart is the combination of high-level subspecialty expertise, complex case volume and a truly collaborative academic environment.

We are able to take care of everything from common athletic injuries to very challenging revision and reconstructive cases, while also drawing on the resources of a major academic medical center.

The research environment also helps keep patient care current and cutting-edge. Patients benefit from being treated by physicians who are not only providing care but also teaching, studying outcomes and working to improve how these problems are managed.”
