Yaesshna Thaynambaal Pillay, MD

Yaesshna Pillay, MD, is a general neurologist with Keck Medicine of USC, fellowship trained in neurophysiology. Dr. Pillay sees a wide range of neurological conditions, including neuromuscular disorders and epilepsy, and provides electrodiagnostic testing. She believes the most important part of the patient-physician relationship is trust, and she is dedicated to listening to and advocating for her patients to provide excellent care.

Dr. Pillay earned her medical degree from the University College Dublin in Ireland. She completed a residency in neurology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, followed by a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

At the Keck School of Medicine of USC, Dr. Pillay serves as a clinical assistant professor of neurology. Her research looks at the possible correlation between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and physical activity, as well as expanding access to nerve and muscle testing globally where it isn’t currently accessible.

Dr. Pillay cares deeply about global health equity, both here in Los Angeles and abroad. She is currently helping to develop and lead a neurophysiology training program in Cambodia.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Pillay enjoys hiking and camping with her two rescue dogs, gardening, reading, crocheting and baking. Having grown up in Singapore, she travels back often to see family and friends and to indulge in the food.
