Transcatheter Valve Replacement, Repair and Implantation (TAVR/TAVI)

Minimally Invasive Surgery for Easier Recovery

Transcatheter valve replacement (TAVR) is done as a treatment for aortic valve stenosis, a condition where one of your heart valves is too thick and narrow. This can limit your blood flow and cause chest pain and shortness of breath. TAVR is a minimally invasive surgery option to replace your valve with one made of cow or pig tissue and ease your symptoms.

At the USC Valve Center, our multidisciplinary team of experts can help you decide if TAVR is the right treatment for you. If you cannot have open heart surgery, it can be a good option for you. Minimally invasive surgeries like TAVR mean that you can sometimes go home from the hospital the day after your surgery and reduce the amount of pain you have after surgery. TAVR is sometimes called transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Why Choose Us for Your TAVR

We are recognized among the top programs in the nation for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery by U.S. News & World Report.

Our doctors have played instrumental roles in the advancement and approvals of numerous minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures for TAVR.

With our Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program, you can go home after your surgery sometimes within a day.

We have the ability to replace certain patients’ aortic valves with transcatheter therapies that don’t require opening your chest and don’t require a heart-lung machine.

We offer the latest treatments through clinical trials that are advancing minimally invasive and robotic-assisted cardiac surgery capabilities.
