Mark Edward Williams , MD
Mark Edward Williams, MD, is a nephrologist with Keck Medicine of USC who specializes in chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, hypertension, end-stage kidney disease and the care of patients who have received a kidney transplant.
When working with patients, Dr. Williams prioritizes clear, empathetic and approachable communication. He ensures patients feel informed about their condition, understand how diagnoses are made and are actively involved in treatment decisions.
Dr. Williams earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, then went on to an internship at the University of Southern California Medical Center (now Los Angeles General), where he also served as a junior resident. He then became a senior resident at Boston City Hospital (now Boston Medical Center), then stayed in Boston for a clinical fellowship in medicine and a research fellowship in nephrology at Beth Israel Hospital (now Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center). Dr. Williams then joined the academic staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and rose to associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
He now serves as a clinical associate professor of medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. His research interests include chronic and diabetic kidney disease, diabetic end-stage renal disease and ways to improve dialysis outcomes.
Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Williams was encouraged to pursue medicine by his brother, a scientist. He finds deep gratification in applying his knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives. Outside of work, Dr. Williams is an avid photographer.
