Ashraf Elmashat , MD
Ashraf Elmashat, MD, is a psychiatrist with Keck Medicine of USC who provides comprehensive care for adults, children and adolescents. He is double-board-certified in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry and treats a wide range of psychiatric conditions and treatment-resistant disorders, including mood disorder, anxiety disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Dr. Elmashat has extensive expertise in novel, alternative treatments for mental health disorders, including neuromodulation treatments like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), esketamine nasal spray and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS).
He earned his medical degree from Cairo University. Following that, he proceeded to Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center (now Los Angeles General) to complete an internship, residency and fellowship in psychiatry and behavioral health, as well as a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr. Elmashat values building strong partnerships with his patients that are based on trust, empathy and open communication. He prioritizes patient education and always takes the time to listen to patients’ concerns and preferences.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Elmashat serves as a clinical professor of psychiatry and the behavioral sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where his research focuses on mood disorders and best practices to help patients manage their conditions. He is a member of professional organizations including the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
When he’s not at work, Dr. Elmashat enjoys staying active, taking trips to the beach, hiking, gardening and spending time with his family.
