The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® awards honor proven dedication to best practices and life-saving care
Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, USC Arcadia Hospital (USC-AH) and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital (USC-VHH) collectively received numerous American Heart Association (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for heart and stroke care.
Get With the Guidelines® is the AHA’s hospital-based quality improvement program that provides hospitals with the latest research-based guidelines and recognizes hospitals’ commitment to delivering high-quality, evidenced-based cardiovascular and stroke care.
Awards for heart failure care recognize reduced hospital readmissions and improved quality of life for patients with heart failure. Hospitals must take specific measures to improve medication adherence, providing early follow-up care and enhance patient education.
Resuscitation care awards reflect rapid recognition and timely intervention of in-hospital cardiac arrest, using best practices that improve survival and patient outcomes. Hospitals given the Target: Survival award achieve the top 60% survival rate among all hospitals nationwide who participate in the Get With The Guidelines – Resuscitation registry.
Stroke care awards recognize hospitals’ prompt stroke response. Rapid diagnosis and treatment are critical in minimizing brain injury, preserving neurological function and improving patient outcomes. Target: Stroke Honor Roll awards recognize hospitals’ reduced time between eligible patients’ arrival at the hospital and specialized treatments to remove the clot causing the stroke.
The Target: Stroke Honor Roll Advanced Therapy designation is the highest award given to Comprehensive Stroke Centers, which provide the highest level of specialized stroke care for qualifying patients. Specialized treatments include includes a blood clot removal procedure (thrombectomy) and administering a medication that breaks up blood clots (tenecteplase).
Diabetes care honor roll awards recognize specialized care for patients with Type 2 diabetes, who may be at higher risk for complications, when hospitalized due to heart disease or stroke.
