GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)

GERD, also known as acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease, is chronic reflux of gastric juice into the esophagus that can cause recurring heartburn and regurgitation. Over time, GERD can cause damage that can lead to trouble swallowing or to pre-cancerous changes called Barrett’s esophagus. In some patients, GERD can cause esophageal cancer.
