Clinical Nutrition

Our clinical nutrition therapy experts offer comprehensive, evidence-based care to help you manage your nutritional status and achieve a wide range of well-being goals, whether it’s losing weight, managing a chronic disease, preparing for a surgical procedure or improving your overall health.

Our Role in Your Nutritional Wellness

A consultation with one of our registered dietitians is generally initiated by a referral from your primary care provider, surgeon or specialist. Our nutrition experts also play an important role in surgical optimization by helping patients prior to surgery, during their hospitalization and after surgery.

We work in close collaboration with your primary care team, surgeon or specialists to help you identify and address any issues maintaining your nutrition status, managing your weight and preventing or treating chronic conditions. Our multidisciplinary approach to care helps us deliver exceptional outcomes and provide nutritional support to a wide array of specialties, including bariatrics, oncology, general surgery, primary care and transplant surgery.

Whether you are searching for more information on how to improve your diet, preparing for a surgical procedure or managing a chronic disease, our dietitians are prepared to help you identify and reach your nutrition and well-being goals.

What Is a Registered Dietitian?

All of the dietitians at Keck Medicine of USC are registered dietitians. Registered dietitians are professionals who specialize in providing medical nutrition therapy to help prevent and treat both acute and chronic diseases. Registered dietitians must complete specialized academic and professional training, including a dietetic internship approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, specialized certification under the Commission on Dietetic Registration and mandatory continuing professional education. Registered dietitians may also choose to use the credential: registered dietitian nutritionist. Most of our registered dietitians have advanced degrees and/or specialty certifications, as well as a vast array of clinical experience and expertise.
