Deep Brain Stimulation Care for Movement Disorders

At the USC Deep Brain Stimulation Center, we provide care to decrease the symptoms of dystonia, essential tremor and other movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease. We use deep brain stimulation (DBS) when other medical and psychological treatments do not improve your condition.

Deep brain stimulation acts like a pacemaker for your brain. The device blocks abnormal electrical signals in your brain that can cause uncontrolled movements. It can also improve mobility for people who are slowed down by Parkinson’s disease. It doesn’t cure movement disorders, but it does relieve symptoms so you can be more independent and comfortable.

Why Choose Us for Deep Brain Stimulation Treatment

We use deep brain stimulation to provide life-changing relief from your symptoms.

We are the only neurology center in Southern California to provide an advanced DBS technique using real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance that lets you sleep during the procedure.

We are a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence.

Our multidisciplinary team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists and social workers, who all work together on your behalf.

We conduct important clinical trials on DBS, Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, essential tremor and other movement disorders.
