Dr. Lindsay Hwang, a radiation oncologist at Keck Medicine of USC

Dr. Hwang is a radiation oncologist at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant brain tumors.

Here’s what you won’t find on her resume.

She’s a foodie and an LA Dodgers fan.

“If I’m not working, I’m likely exploring farmers markets or new places to eat in Southern California, cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers or traveling to some new and delicious destination.”

Her bucket list includes traveling to exotic destinations.

I’m hoping one day to witness the splendor of the aurora borealis, snorkel and scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef and visit the Spanish coastal city of Marbella.”

Tropical islands hold a special place for her.

While I’m partial to any tropical island destination, my fondest childhood memory is of a family trip to an island in the Philippines, called Boracay.”

She found her calling to medicine, while doing volunteer work.

During my undergraduate years, I became fascinated by cancer science. While exploring scientific research and volunteering in the hospital, it became apparent to me that the human aspect of oncology is what I find most fulfilling. I’m grateful to the patients who helped me realize this passion and to the people who encouraged me to apply to medical school.”

Building a connection with her patients is at the core of her work.

The most rewarding part of my job is the relationships that I develop with my patients. While the science and technology of the treatments I offer are the backbone of what I do, my patients and their stories are what inspire me the most and fulfill me as a person, as well as a physician.”

Her medical specialty continues to evolve and advance.

Computers and technologic advancements have completely changed the field of radiation oncology!”

Personalized medicine is central to her philosophy of care.

I would love to see further advancement and implementation in the area of personalized medicine. Rarely in life is there a one-size-fits-all solution, and I believe that is also true for oncology.”

She is grateful to give back to Keck Medicine’s patient community.

I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the patients and colleagues at Keck Medicine, where I did my residency training. Through clinical research, I will continue to advocate for the patients of the Greater Los Angeles region and beyond.”
