Our hearing specialists help improve your age-related hearing loss and enhance your quality of life.

Age-related hearing loss, also called presbycusis, happens gradually as most people age — it’s one of the most common age-related conditions. In the United States, about 1 in 3 people 65 and older and nearly half of people over 75 have hearing loss, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

We offer a full range of the latest treatments to improve your hearing and enhance your quality of life. U.S. News & World Report names us among the country’s top ear, nose and throat (ENT) programs. You get complete care from ENT doctors, surgeons, audiologists (hearing specialists) and other professionals in a single place.

What Are the Symptoms of Sensorineural Hearing Loss?

What Are the Symptoms of Age-related Hearing Loss?

Age-related hearing loss most often affects people 65 and older. It’s a form of sensorineural hearing loss — or nerve-related hearing loss — caused by inner ear problems. A family history of hearing loss, diabetes or high blood pressure can increase your risk of hearing loss as you age.

The main symptom is loss of hearing, but other signs include:

  • Difficulty understanding conversations in loud environments, such as restaurants or other public places
  • Problems hearing high-pitched sounds, such as cell phone tones, or women’s or children’s voices
  • Tinnitus (constant ringing or chirping sounds) in one or both ears

You might notice you must turn up the volume on your TV or speakers to hear better. You may also avoid situations that make it hard to hear, such as attending parties or events with many people. It’s difficult to follow conversations, which can leave you feeling isolated.

What Are the Hearing Loss Treatments for Older Adults?

We offer the latest treatments to improve your hearing — and let you return to activities you stopped doing because of hearing loss. We develop a personalized treatment plan to restore your hearing as much as possible.

Your treatment may include:

  • Assistive listening devices to increase sound volumes, such as amplification devices (including smartphone apps) and closed-circuit systems in theaters, auditoriums and other public venues
  • Cochlear implants to stimulate the auditory nerve and let you hear in a different way
  • Hearing aids (wearable devices) to make noises louder

You’ll have access to the latest hearing-loss advancements, including the best hearing aids for seniors.
