Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty, or a “nose job,” is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures requested by Southern California men and women, second only to facelifts. Concerns about the size and shape of the nose are common and can have a significant impact on how one views their appearance.

For some patients, a deformity of the nose can also cause breathing problems. Rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging of all facial plastic surgery procedures, requiring significant skill and experience. Patients must trust their face to a plastic surgeon who has extensive, fellowship-trained experience in rhinoplasty.

Our highly talented surgeons have fellowship training at the best medical centers in the world. Each of them has trained with leaders in the field of facial plastic surgery and are proficient in altering the structure and appearance of the nose with rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping surgery, while at the same time ensuring that your breathing remains excellent.

Who is a candidate for rhinoplasty?

Healthy men, women and teens looking to improve the appearance and/or function of their nose may be excellent candidates for rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping. During a consultation, an experienced facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon will perform a facial analysis and work with you to help determine the best course of action that will deliver the most appealing results.

What is the procedure and recovery like?

Rhinoplasty surgery may be performed with moderate sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference and age. When performed on younger children, rhinoplasty may be carried out in a hospital setting.

Our surgeons use only the most advanced, state-of-the-art rhinoplasty techniques. As each nose is unique in both appearance and function, the rhinoplasty procedure and technique are tailored to each patient’s individual aesthetic and functional needs.

Small incisions, hidden under the nasal tip and within the nose, allow access to the cartilage and bone responsible for the shape and function of the nose. These structures are carefully adjusted to achieve the desired appearance and function. Sutures are used to close the incisions and a small external splint is placed. Scarring is minimal, and the sutures are securely hidden underneath the skin.

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis. Most patients return home a few hours after surgery. Length of recovery time depends on the complexity of the procedure and varies from patient to patient. Prescription pain medication is usually only required for the first few days. Mild discomfort, bruising or swelling lasts seven to 10 days. Most patients are able to return to work, school or other daily activities within about one week. Avoidance of contact sports is recommended for about one month after surgery.

Our experienced surgeons reduce bruising and recovery time with the application of state-of-the-art techniques and the use of homeopathic or herbal options. Detailed postoperative and aftercare instructions will be provided to each patient.
