Jacob Comeaux, MS, is a board-certified genetic counselor specializing in cancer genetics at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Keck Medicine of USC. Comeaux provides care for patients who have a personal or family history of cancer, including breast and ovarian cancer, as well as Lynch syndrome and other rare conditions associated with increased cancer risk.
For each patient, Comeaux outlines the benefits and limitations of genetic testing, counsels on genetic findings, recommends appropriate preventive options and provides emotional support.
He uses his expertise to ensure that each patient is offered the genetic test best suited to their medical and family history and carefully interprets the results. If his patients have hereditary cancer conditions, Comeaux also provides expert care to their families.
His research interests include cancer gene mutations and their impact on treatment decisions and expanding genetic testing to a broader patient population. He has recently published about the surgical decision-making process for people who carry breast cancer gene mutations.
Comeaux was born in Louisiana and grew up in Michigan and California. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with friends and family — whether backpacking in the Eastern Sierra or hiking in the Swiss Alps.

“We are all unique and have different concerns and definitions of optimal care. I do my best to understand what every patient hopes to gain from genetic counseling.
“Getting to know each person enables me to address the aspects of care most important to them. I want my patients to know they can trust me. I learn something new from each person I meet and feel honored to be part of their care.”
