Microlaminectomy

Our expert spine surgeons offer you a minimally invasive surgical procedure to ease pressure on the spine.

Minimally Invasive Surgery for Back Pain and Sciatica

If you have lumbar spinal stenosis, which can cause lower back (lumbar) pain due to narrowed spaces in the spine, you may benefit from microlaminectomy. During microlaminectomy, your spine surgeon removes a small portion of the lamina, a bone that covers and protects your spinal cord. A microlaminectomy reduces lumbar spinal stenosis symptoms, which include pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the legs. Doctors may also recommend microdiscectomy to treat or reduce symptoms of a herniated disc.

Microlaminectomy

Surgeons perform a microlaminectomy using a small incision on your lower back. Your surgeon uses magnifying tools to view the affected area. This minimally invasive procedure results in less scarring and a faster recovery time.

If you have a microlaminectomy, you can expect to go home the same day following surgery. Our occupational therapists will assist you with microlaminectomy recovery, providing you with the necessary information and resources to support your healing. They will also help you understand the right way to move in the days and weeks following surgery so that you avoid strain or injury.
