Dr. Marecek is an assistant professor of clinical orthopaedic surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He specializes in orthopaedic trauma surgery and fracture care. Here’s what you won’t find on his resume:
He has a love for dinosaurs.
“When I was younger, I was obsessed with dinosaurs. I wanted to be a paleontologist and unearth fossils. Later, I wanted to be a teacher. I kind of succeeded – I am a teacher, and I study bones too!”
His swim coach had a huge impact on his work ethic.
“He was punctual and demanded hard work and integrity. No matter how much we complained about the early practices, he was always ready to work.”

Traveling is a family pastime.
“We’re always looking for new destinations to explore. While we’ve had some fantastic trips, my wife and I are really looking forward to showing our daughters that any trip can be exciting and memorable.”
He leads by example.
“Teaching our residents keeps me on my toes. Working with them helps me see problems through fresh eyes. I know that as a surgeon, I can make a positive impact on my patients’ lives. I’ve also learned that by teaching the residents to perform surgery well, I am indirectly helping all of their future patients.”
Patients can count on him for his expertise and his understanding.
“Patients come see me when something bad has happened – a car accident, a fall or an injury playing sports. They don’t have the luxury of scheduling their surgery into their life. It’s my job not only to help them with their injury, but also come to terms with the short-term changes in their lives and help them understand they will get back on their feet.”
Seeing his patients’ smile motivates him everyday.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a patient walk into the office smiling. You never forget how he or she looked in the hospital right after the injury. To see this person up and moving again never gets old.”
