CEO of Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital

Marty Sargeant was appointed CEO of Keck Medical Center of USC, comprised of Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital, in October 2021 after serving as interim CEO since July 2020.

He is responsible for providing executive leadership for both hospitals while maintaining strong relationships with department chairs, faculty, staff and leadership.

Sargeant has more than 20 years of health care leadership experience. Prior to his role as interim CEO, he served as chief operating officer for the two hospitals. In this position he provided overall executive leadership, including quality of care, clinical operations, customer satisfaction, financial stewardship, physician relations and business growth.

Throughout his tenure at Keck Medicine, he has strengthened the workforce, aligned medical teams to advance patient care and enhanced surgical procedures. Sargeant is committed to putting patients first and creating a work environment where health care providers can thrive. His leadership skills have been on full display during the pandemic, as he has successfully steered the hospitals through the operational changes required to ensure the health of staff and patients.

Before joining Keck Medicine, Sargeant served as COO for City of Hope. There, he led operations for the medical center and 22 community practice sites, research operations, and enterprise support services, and his efforts contributed to a growth of almost $2 billion in operating revenue. Before City of Hope, Sargeant held a number of positions over a 17-year tenure with the Cleveland Clinic.

Previous to his career in health care, Sargeant served for 10 years as an F-15 combat pilot in the United States Air Force, for which he received two medals of commendation, and served as a flight instructor.

He is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
