As the chief contracting, managed care and payer relations officer for Keck Medicine of USC, Ernie Schwefler is responsible for the strategic management of contracting, managed care and value-based program activities.
Schwefler oversees the value-based services organization that enables Keck Medicine to provide optimal value for Medicare patients. He also manages the health system’s relationships with providers and payers, seeking innovative solutions to provide the highest quality patient care with optimal value. Additionally, he is focused on increasing access to Keck Medicine’s services by creating and securing optimal contractual reimbursement structures, as well as participating in strategic networks and collaborations.
Prior to joining Keck Medicine, Schwefler and was regional vice president of provider engagement and contracting for the network management team at Anthem, where he was responsible for deploying contracting initiatives with hospitals, medical groups and physicians in the state of California. He also managed the HMO strategy program team and was responsible for payment innovations for California.
Schwefler holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California Lutheran University.
