Dr. David is a general surgeon at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in thoracic and cardiothoracic surgery and lung cancer.

Here’s what you won’t find on her resume.

Medicine was her first — and only — calling.

“I’ve always wanted to be a doctor. When I was little, I had a toy doctor’s kit, and it was my favorite toy. I’ve always enjoyed helping people, and I love that medicine challenges me emotionally and intellectually to do that.”

Running is her passion.

“When I’m not working, I’m usually running. I enjoy long-distance running. I have run three marathons, and my husband and I are currently training for another one.”

Her bucket list is filled with the great outdoors.

“Three things I have yet to check off my bucket list are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, hiking Machu Picchu and qualifying for the Boston Marathon.”

Italy replenishes her soul.

“My favorite travel destination is Italy. I love the food, the culture and the history. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of the country.”

Her patients are her inspiration.

“My patients inspire me to be the best physician possible, on a daily basis. I’m in awe of what patients and their caregivers endure to battle major medical problems. It’s very rewarding to have a small role in helping them to battle their diseases.”

She’s witnessing great strides in lung cancer outcomes and survivorship.

“For a long time, lung cancer has been associated with a lot of challenging issues, but now we are seeing survival rates improve, and our treatments are getting easier to tolerate — it’s great news for our patients!”

Academic medicine unites her values.

“I love academic medicine. I think patients receive very high quality care in environments where physicians are challenged to teach and learn every day. I love teaching our trainees to practice evidence-based, patient-centered care.”

Being part of a multidisciplinary team helps her deliver exceptional care.

“Our ability to provide multidisciplinary care for lung cancer patients allows us to provide very high quality care that is patient-centered. Our specialists in surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology and pulmonary medicine all work closely together to make efficient and effective care plans to optimize patient outcomes. I love being a part of this lung cancer team, and I love seeing the Trojan Spirit reflected in our patients and the way we care for them. We ‘fight on’ with them!”
