A specialist in hip and knee replacement and joint preservation, Paul Gilbert, MD, has helped pioneer innovative surgical tools, such as computer navigation, robotics and minimally invasive techniques, to improve the patient experience.
Dr. Gilbert has performed thousands of joint replacements over the last thirty years and has used computer navigation in more than 1,500 joint replacement procedures. He also adopted robotic surgery for partial knee replacements, due to its benefits in achieving accuracy in surgery. Dr. Gilbert is board certified in orthopedic surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
His research interests focus on advancing sophisticated computer technology and orthorobotics in surgery and refining unicompartmental (single compartment) joint replacement. His goal is to help patients recover faster and better.
Dr. Gilbert grew up in an Air Force family and lived in several U.S. states and abroad. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with family, auto racing, physical fitness and scuba diving. He is a certified rescue diver.
“I focus on treating the whole patient. The most important aspects of my relationship with patients are honesty, trust and listening.
I take a lot of characteristics from my dad, such as integrity and hard work, but the one that I feel is the most important is honesty. I strive to not only be honest with my patients but with myself, as well.”
