Andre Luis De Castro Abreu, MD

Assistant Professor of Clinical Urology
Co-Director of Image-Guided Surgery and Focal Therapy of Prostate and Kidney Cancer

Practicing location:

  • Keck Medicine of USC - Beverly Hills

About this doctor:

Dr. Abreu has excellent skills and knowledge on image-guided surgery including MRI/TRUS (Magnetic Resonance Imaging/ Transrectal Ultrasound) fusion prostate biopsy and focal therapy, including HIFU (High intensity Focus Ultrasound), for prostate cancer. Due to his abilities and the cutting-edge technology he uses on imaging-guided prostate biopsy, he performs “per-lesion” active surveillance for prostate cancer with a detailed 3D-mapping of the prostate and cancer location. During his clinical fellowship at USC he was involved in more than 350 major/complex robotic urologic surgeries, treating cancer and benign diseases, and performed more than 300 prostate biopsies. These make Dr. Abreu been one of the unique urologists with capabilities to perform such a range of excellent clinical care, therefore performing specific/tailored treatment for each individual patient.

Dr. Abreu has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious medical journals such as. In addition, Dr. Abreu has authored book chapters and presented many abstracts in reputed urology meetings on such topics as robotic and laparoscopic urologic surgery as well as focal therapy, active surveillance and image-guided biopsies. He has received numerous awards for his work, including Best Video Award and Best Poster from organizations including the American Urological Association, European Association of Urology, and The Endourological Society.

Philosophy of Care: Each patient is unique, as such, patient’s treatment should be tailored accordingly to the disease and patient’s characteristics. Although we provide specific patient care, the patient should be seen as whole, as human being.
